In the past I had made a panda dog hat, but it wasn’t a design that I loved, so I eventually retired it. I recently decided to revise the old hat pattern and create a new cozy creation with bigger, bolder ears. The result is a Playful Panda Dog Hat that animal lovers will not be able to resist!

The panda-love didn’t stop there! I also wanted to play with making mini knitted and crocheted animal faces. I worked up a cute bear face that I have since used to create ornaments and dog neck warmers. The panda ornaments are the perfect whimsical decor options for holiday trees, or even for hanging around the home year-round, and the panda dog neck warmers are so comfy and adorable that I just know out customers are going to be paw-sitively thrilled about them! It has been a lot of fun playing with the panda image for recent projects, and I am excited to share the other new ideas I have in the works. From foxes to sugar skulls, there are a lot of exciting new designs that will be making their way into our Etsy shop over the next few weeks. By fall, I hope to have at least a dozen new knitwear options available for our dog-loving clients, so stay tuned for the cuteness overload that lies ahead!

• We love costumes (I mean, just look at the business we’re in!), but it’s important to remember that some pets simply do not like to dress up. If your pets appear at all upset or anxious when you put on their creepy new costumes, you should not force them to join the fun. Like humans, all dogs have different comfort levels, and it is important to respect your pet’s response to wearing clothing.
• One of the biggest threats to pets on Halloween is candy! Chocolate is toxic to dogs and many artificial colors and sweeteners are also harmful. Keep candy and other Halloween treats away from pets at all times. If your pet is mischievous and will find a way to snatch food from counter tops and tables, then be sure to store it out of reach in high cabinets. Still want to give your furry friend a treat? Consider making some homemade dog-safe snacks using one of our recipes.

• Trick-or-Treating is the most exciting part of this ghoulish holiday for humans, but it can be nerve racking for pets. Even dogs who tend to enjoy meeting new people can get anxious or even aggressive with large crowds of strangely dressed people swarming them. It’s fine to let your pets come out to say a quick  “hello” to familiar neighbors, but you may want to consider leaving furry family members safe at home while you go out on your quest for candy. Also, be sure to keep pets in a separate room when greeting trick-or-treaters to avoid your beloved family member accidentally bolting out the door.
• Jack-o-lanterns are a beautiful part of the day’s devilish decor, but be sure to keep them at a safe distance from pets, who may risk accidentally burning themselves while investigating their illuminated pumpkin pals.
• Lastly, HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME! Planning your holiday with your dog’s safety in mind will help you to feel a bit more relaxed when the day arrives so that you can enjoy all of the fabulously freaky fun that will ensue.

Any orders for dog hats and custom knits must be placed by November 15 for United States customers and November 1 for customers located in any other country.

Orders for All You Need is Pug tote bags, paper goods, t-shirts, and mugs must be placed by December 15 for United States customers and November 21 for customers located in any other country.

Any orders placed after these dates cannot be guaranteed to arrive in time for Christmas! Orders for dog hats & custom knits take 5-6 weeks to be handmade before being shipped. I will also note that it is our shop policy that there are no cancellations, returns, or refunds, so be sure to keep these dates in mind when placing your order, as you will not be able to cancel your order for any reason once it has been placed.  All orders placed after the indicated cut-off dates will ship in January 2016.

The Pug Rescue of New England’s Pug Social is always our favorite event of the year! Hundreds of pugs come out to Spencer, MA to celebrate their pugliness and compete for fabulous titles such as Most Wrinkles, Best Kisser, and Best Trick. PRoNE holds a special place in my heart because they are the rescue that brought JD into my life. All You Need is Pug would not exist without JD, and my life would have been completely different if JD had never burst upon it with his inspiring energy and spunky spirit. I am so grateful to PRoNE for introducing me to my little soul mate!

This year’s Pug Social was particularly exciting because so may pug loving families were present! I don’t think I have ever seen the social so packed with pets and their people. It was a beautiful day is Spencer, and families made the trek from all over the east coast to come out to share in the pug fun.

There were even famous dogs in attendance including Bitt Dog of Love, Spanky & Darla, Woof Wellington, The Pugdashians, and Maddrox & King, all of whom are well known on Instrgram, Twitter, and other social media platforms. How lucky are we to have seen so many of these extraordinary dogs in a single day?

It was such a great experience to talk with all of the customers who stopped by our table. Many were repeat customers who had bought items from us during socials past, and others had purchased from our Etsy shop or followed our adventures on Facebook. It’s always nice to be able to put names with faces and learn a little more about the individuals who support my small business and allow me to do what I love for a living!

What struck me most about this particular group of pug lovers is how concerned and caring they are about one another’s dogs. Several people inquired about JD’s continued battle with his corneal ulcer and offered helpful advice from their own similar experiences with their pets. I can’t express how thankful I am to have customers who are so genuine and kind!

I wish I had had time to wander about the fairgrounds to meet more families and peek at some of the contests, but our table was busy throughout the entirety of the event! I did manage to sneak a few moments to snuggle with Bitt whenever he and his pug siblings stopped by my table. Bitt was made an honorary pug for the day and even dressed up in one of our Lion Hats to keep warm.

It’s hard to believe that another Pug Social has come and gone! This will  likely be our last event for 2015. We will be spending the rest of the season preparing holiday orders and will look forward to seeing you all at next year’s festivities!

The first pugs that we instantly recognized were Paddington and Sanka. These handsome brothers are definitely show-stoppers! Sanka’s spunky energy and Paddington’s cool-dude attitude make them so much fun to hang out with. JD definitely enjoyed getting to know this dynamic duo.

Soon after meeting Paddington & Sanka, we saw our ever-gracious host, Hamilton Pug! For those who don’t know Hamilton, he is the wonderful host of #PugChat on Twitter every Wednesday night. He & his humans organized the Boston Pug Party and brought us all together, so we are very grateful that he gave us the opportunity to meet so many of our fabulous friends in a single day. Hamilton is everything you would expect him to be: handsome, sweet, and incredibly charming!

And let’s not forget Hamilton’s little brother, Rufus! Rufus is equally as dapper and dashing as his older brother, and he always makes the best faces in photos. This pair never stops making us smile in their online antics, so seeing them in person made us feel a bit starstruck!

One of the pugs who traveled the farthest to come to the Pug Party was Violet. This little cutie is sweet as can be and is just as cuddly in person as she appears to be in photos. She and her brother Timmy made the trek with their humans all the way from Chicago to come and meet everyone in Boston. I think they deserve an award for being such good friends to travel all that way! We made a pink beret for Violet a few months ago, and she melted our hearts in the sweet photo that her owner shared with us. It was fun to see this little lady up close & personal!

JD made pals with many of the pugs that we met, but there is no denying that he and the very handsome Otis the Pug Walsh became the fastest of friends. These two took an immediate liking to one another, and what was so extraordinary is that they practically look like twins! JD is a few years older than Otis, but minus the greying muzzle, these little guys could be brothers. Now, you may be thinking “don’t all pugs look alike?” Nope! All pugs have unique features, whether it be the patterns in their wrinkles or the curliness of their tails. Us humans decided that these guys must be brothers from another mother. While JD adored Otis, I must admit that I had a little crush on him myself. He just has a way of winning hearts!

While all of the humans stopped to chat and gush about how cute all of the pugs were, the pugs seized the opportunity to have playtime. JD had a particularly fun romp with Wellington!

We saw several pugs wearing hats that we made for them. This put a huge smile on my face! It was quite a chilly day in Boston, making our hats as practical as they are cute. Here JB & Spanky wait for snacks while Spanky shows off his style in a Little Monster Hat.

We mentioned that Sanka is a show-stopper, but in case you didn’t believe us, just check out this little cowboy!

Paddington got us in the football spirit a day early with the Football Helmet that his parents got him from our Etsy shop. One pug mama noted that this hat also looks a bit like a Hostess cupcake. Quite right! Either way, Paddington looks pretty pawesome.

Toward the end of the pre-party we met Shaugnessy. We couldn’t resist snapping a picture of JD with a fellow fashionable pug. Those coats could definitely put these two on the best-dressed list.

While I wish we had even more fun to share from the event, our day was sadly cut short. Just after arriving in Boston I noticed that JD’s eye was a bit cloudy and blue. JD is currently undergoing treatment for a corneal ulcer in his right eye, and I worried that the treatment might be having an adverse effect. I called our vet just before the Pug Party began and she asked us to bring JD in immediately. I was heartbroken. We were so excited for this special day and I hated to leave, but JD’s health is always our top priority. We stayed at the event long enough to say ‘hello’ to as many of our friends as possible before we left and rushed JD to the emergency room at our animal hospital. It turns out that JD’s eye was not responding to the treatment that we were prescribed earlier in the week, and the changes we were seeing in his eye were caused by the ulcer. Today, JD is doing fairly well. He is currently being administered two new types of eye drops every 2 hours and has an appointment with an ophthalmologist tomorrow. We are hoping for the best and will keep you posted about his results.

We want to thank everyone for your well-wishes and concern. Everyone we met at the Pug Party was so kind and we were struck not only by how wonderful and well behaved so many of the dogs were, but how gracious and friendly all of their humans were as well. It was a pleasure to meet so many extraordinary pug families, and we hope to have the opportunity to do it again some day!

Our Christmas order cut-off dates for knit and crochet items are November 28 for U.S. orders and November 1 for all International orders.

These dates are subject to change, and the time frames may be adjusted to accommodate this year’s order volume.
